Bayern Munich 4 Juventus 2 (agg 6-4): Guardiola´s men progress after incredible comeback

Bayern Munich snatched a Champions League quarter-final spot from the jaws of defeat by beating Juventus 4-2 after extra time on Wednesday.

Thomas Muller was Bayern s saviour with an equaliser in the 91st minute, forcing the additional period as a 2-2 scoreline mirrored last week s in Turin, before Thiago Alcantara and Juventus loanee Kingsley Coman stepped up to see off last season s finalists.

Massimiliano Allegri was unable to call upon key men Paulo Dybala, Claudio Marchisio and Giorgio Chiellini, but a stunning display of counter-attacking had them 2-0 up at the interval through Paul Pogba and Juan Cuadrado.

Bayern had blown a two-goal advantage in the first leg and were relentless in ensuring the Italians suffered a repeat of sorts.

Germany 4 Italy 1: World champions ease to victory in Munich

Germany ended a 21-year wait for a win over Italy as they scored two goals in each half to record a resounding 4-1 triumph in Munich on Tuesday.

Having thrown away a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 to England on Saturday, Joachim Low s side bounced back in style to end a seven-match winless streak against their opponents.

Toni Kroos scored his second international goal in as many matches when his right-footed attempt from just outside the area broke the deadlock in the 24th minute.

Mario Gotze headed in his 17th goal for Germany on the stroke of half-time, while any fears the hosts might suffer another second-half collapse disappeared when full-back Jonas Hector broke his duck for the national team just before the hour mark.

Barcelona want Llorente

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have been linked with a somewhat surprising move for Tottenham Hotspur striker Fernando Llorente. The former Spain international has been with Spurs since 2017 when he made the jump over from Swansea City, with Barca sniffing around for a back up forward. Llorente would be filling in the gap left by Munir El Haddadi, who recently made the jump over to fellow La Liga side Sevilla.

Athletic Bilbao are also in the running to sign him, which wouldn’t be the most surprising possibility in the world. Llorente was with Bilbao for seven years in his youth before returning to the club for a nine year spell, during which time he made well over 300 appearances.

Llorente hasn’t quite been able to hit the ground running as he…

The 26-year-old earned a big-money transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu in 2014 following his impressive performances at the World Cup in Brazil.

He played under Carlo Ancelotti during his first campaign in the Spanish capital and must now impress the Italian coach again to force his way into the Bundesliga champions starting XI.

We have some great players and I have to fight for a starting position, he told a news conference.

Agbonlahor out of England squad

Aston Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor has withdrawn from the England squad for the friendlies against Spain and Sweden due to injury.

A statement on the FA s website did not specify the nature of Agbonlahor s injury and did not suggest if a replacement would be called up, though it is thought that the striker may have tweaked his hamstring.

Agbonlahor received his first England call-up since 2009 and was expected to add to his three international caps following a good start to the season at Villa Park.

First-up win can boost Ghana, says Mensah

Ghana captain John Mensah is positive his side will go far in the Africa Cup of Nations if they win their first group game with Botswana.

The Lyon defender said amassing three points in the opening game will help calm nerves as the Black Stars go into the Cup as title favourites.

The first game is always important in every competition, Mensah said in an interview posted on the Ghana FA website.

When you win your first game, it settles you down and gives you some added confidence. We have been working hard but we need to get the first game out of the way before looking ahead.

As Ghana look forward to hold the cup for a fifth time, the 29-year-old admitted they have a tall order to clear if they are to end their 30-year trophy drought.

Petrovic takes control at Urawa

J.League club Urawa Reds have officially announced that Mihailo Petrovic will be the club s next manager.

The 2007 Asian Champions League winners finished a dismal 15th in 2011 after firing manager Zeljko Petrovic with just five matches remaining.

Caretaker Takafumi Hori barely suceeded in avoiding relegation by winning just two games, but supporters were far from satisfied with the result and club chairman Mitsuo Hashimoto s traditional end-of-season speech was drowned out by boos and chants demanding he resign.

Serbian Petrovic, who also holds an Austrian passport, took over at Sanfrecce Hiroshima in June 2006.

Although the team lost their promotion/relegation series in 2007, Petrovic led them back to the top division by sweeping through J2 in 2008. …

Milito wants Tevez at Inter

Diego Milito says Manchester City s Carlos Tevez would be a welcome addition to Inter s attack.

Tevez is expected to join AC Milan during the January transfer window but Inter remain in the hunt for the Argentine ace and Milito is hoping that his compatriot ends up at Appiano Gentile.

He s a great champion, the 32-year-old striker told Sky Sport Italia. I certainly don t have to be told that.

I ve played with him and I can only say that he would be a great additional weapon for us.

Milito was last month named as Serie A s Bidone d Oro (Golden Bin) for 2011 after a dreadfully barren spell in front of goal over the past year.

However, after netting twice in the crushing 5-0 win over Parma at San Siro on Saturday night a game in which Giampaolo …
